Special Moments from a special time abroad – Part II

Johanna Hahne – St. Louis, MO

I have learned a lot for myself. I learned how to deal with problems myself. One of the most instructive things was to be allowed to be present at a development meeting of the preschool or to observe in the autism clinic.

Emma Schulz – Glencoe/Chicago, IL

Since I started the Program in July 2021, I learned so much more about the educational system in the US and about different therapies. I am a social worker and didn’t have a lot of experience with therapies before coming into my Host Family. It is such a wonderful experience to learn from my Host Family and the therapists how to work with my special needs Host Kid and how we could all bring different perspectives together and find a way to combine all of our different goals.

Natalie Pfeiffer – Hamden, CT

So far, I have only been here for 6 months and I really tried to do a lot. I am volunteering at the Nursery school of my Host Child every Monday where I am singing songs for the kids and playing my ukulele. I did some road trips on my off time (the best one by far was to Vermont in the fall 💘). And the best experience I had so far was running the Half Marathon in New York City.

Tessa Ratke – West Springfield, VA

The most special moment was when I was gone for just a day and my Host Kids were so excited to see me and gave me a huge hug.

So there you have it, some great stories about Special Moments from a special time abroad from our Care Professionals.
