My name is Karin. I am from Germany and I would like to tell you why I love being a Professional Au Pair in the United States (where I was before) and Australia (where I am now), as well as some of the challenges I faced (and overcame!)…

Being a Professional Au Pair in two countries has been an amazing experience. I’ve gotten to know a lot about different cultures and people, and my English skills are getting better every day.

In both countries I’ve lived with wonderful host families who treat me as a family member. In the beginning I would sometimes get homesick . . . but to be honest, Skype and the Internet helped me out a lot!

I also made many good friends and my host families became a big part of my life. I have a good time taking care of my host kids and I also enjoy spending time with my host parents.

One of the big reasons I became a Professional Au Pair is to learn and see the world – and I feel so lucky that I can do it through a great program.

I am also getting a lot of professional experience in childcare, which is great since I’m a Kindergarten Teacher back home in Germany.

In my free time I like to hang out with my local friends and I also have some au pair friends from Europe, which is great because we all go through a similar experience and can really understand each other.

I have learned and seen so many things that I could never experience from a book or a TV show. This time is life-changing for me and I will always think about it as some of the best years in my life.

So if you’re thinking about becoming a Professional Au Pair – you have nothing to lose! You can only win. You get great experience with childcare, love from your host kids, new friends from all over the world, learn about the culture (food, music, places…), travel all across the States or Australia, and improve your English.

I am very glad I made the right decision and became a ProAuPair.

Life is a journey, not a destination. 🙂
